NAMI Focuses On Mentally Ill In Incarceration

 NAMI Tennessee has a project worth sharing. Code- the Movie, is a fantastic short form documentary with Pete Early and the writers of the Academy Award winning film, The Soloist. Here's what the producers have to say;
  Despite being the default in-charge individuals at any given time in our society, law enforcement officials are not above improvement when it comes to their involvement with the public -- especially as it relates to the treatment of mentally ill suspects or prisoners.

NEXT TO NORMAL

 BY POPULAR DEMAND— “NEXT TO NORMAL” IS BACK!

NEXT TO NORMAL is a unique hybrid musical drama that tells the story about a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness and the attempts to alleviate it have on her family. The original opening on Broadway took place April 2009. It was nominated for eleven Tony Awards (won three) and won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Back in June of this year, Theater Tulsa, utilizing amazing local talent, produced and presented this award-winning show. At that time I was asked if, after one of the matinee performances, I would be willing to be part of a reflection panel discussion and field questions from the audience about what it has been like for me to live with bipolar disorder. It was my privilege to do so on June 20.
Many attended the performances of this run, however, many only became aware of its thought-provoking themes and superb production value after it was too late to attend. A clamor arose for another run so that more might have a chance to get in on what they found others so enthusiastically talking about.
I am happy to share that Theater Tulsa will be re-presenting this amazing production for one final weekend, September 25th-27th. Here is the link for show information and tickets:

It should be pointed out that this is an adult’s only production and should be approached as you would the consideration of an R-rated movie. Dramatically and musically this presentation succeeds in being simultaneously entertaining.
